the collection of vintage dances from the 1920s-1940s including Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Charleston, Black Bottom, and vernacular jazz steps. preferably done to music from this era, including big band, swing, jazz, hot jazz, dixieland jazz, and charleston music. notable characteristics of swing dancing are: a lively and energetic dance, and aerials or air steps where the leader (guy) throws/tosses/flips the follower (girl) into the air in a variety of performance-y moves. more modern forms of swing dancing have emerged in the past 20 years, specifically west coast swing, but these are very detached from the vintage styles of dances and music of authentic swing dancing, and usually done to modern club music and more resembles a type of ballroom or hustle dance. please note: in swing dancing, there are no glittery vests and top hats.
